The Herbert Protocol
Might the HERBERT PROTOCOL help you and your family. Are you caring for someone with dementia / Alzheimer’s. The Herbert Protocol has been developed as a resource to provide quick access to relevant information about a vulnerable individual that might go missing.
The idea is for the carer / relatives to fill in a protocol booklet it asks a number of questions that the police and emergency services would want to know when looking for a vulnerable person. The booklet also requests an up to date photo of the vulnerable person.
The carer / relative then retains the protocol, up until a time when it might be needed. If the person you care for goes missing, when you report this to police make them aware that you have a Hebert Protocol already in place. We can then collect the booklet from you and use the information you have provided to support us in trying to find the vulnerable person as quickly as possible.
If you would like a HERBERT PROTOCOL booklet they can be asked for at any police station or by emailing alison.swan@northyorkshire.police.uk
