Northern Powergrid Upgrade Works

Northern Powergrid, the company responsible for the network that powers everyday life for 8 million customers in the North East, Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire, is carrying out a programme of work to ensure your local network has capacity to support future demand, as the population grows and more electricity is needed to power homes, local businesses and transport.

Why does Harrogate need this investment?

The demand on Harrogate’s power network is predicted to increase significantly between now and 2050. We’re installing the new infrastructure needed to support this growth at various locations across the town.

How will this affect you?

We wrote to you recently to let you know about some work we are carrying out on Royal Parade and Montpellier Road. Due to emergency gas works that need to take priority, the start of our work has been delayed. The revised details are as follows:

From Friday 2 until Thursday 8 August 2024, Royal Parade will be CLOSED from the junction of Valley Drive to The Crown Roundabout. Based on feedback from businesses, there is also a new diversion route in place during this road closure. See enclosed map.

From Monday 12 to Friday 16 August 2024, Montpellier Road will be CLOSED from The Crown Roundabout to just before the service road for the hotel/the rear of Grosvenor Buildings and the service road/car park entrance for Royal Baths II. See diversion route enclosed.

The Crown roundabout will remain open, although there will be work in the footpath alongside it from Wednesday 7 until Tuesday 20 August 2024.

Sections of on-street parking will be suspended and some sections of the footpath will be closed during this period.

This is the first phase of our programme of work in your area and we will be returning in early 2025 to carry out some small-scale completion works. It is unlikely this will require road closures.

Access

We are not planning to turn off anyone’s power and it is unlikely we will need to enter premises. We will maintain pedestrian access at all times and work with businesses to ensure they can continue to receive deliveries.

Access to The Crown/Grosvenor Building service road and the Royal Baths II car park and service road will be maintained at all times via the Crescent Road end of Montpellier Road. There will also be full access to Montpellier Gardens via The Crown Roundabout.

Thank you

We thank you in advance for your assistance and apologise for any inconvenience caused while we complete this important work on the electricity network in your area.
