The Passing of Martin Gerrard, a True Gentleman
Martin Gerrard, a prominent business figure in Harrogate and the President of Harrogate Chamber from 2020 to 2022, passed away at the age of 69 last Thursday evening (6th June 2024) following a short illness.
Martin spent 49-year working for Barclays Bank, where he served as a premier relationship manager, retiring in March 2022. Following his retirement, he became an associate at Williams Investment Management. In addition to his successful business endeavours he was actively involved in charitable causes and also served as a director of Harrogate Business Improvement District.
At our 125 celebrations, Martin presented the inaugural President’s Trophy to Robert Ogden for his commitment to business and the community. On learning of his passing, Robert said
“Martin was a great supporter of all business in the Harrogate area, big or small, and he clearly loved people in general, and the social and outreach aspects of his work, both at Barclays and The Chamber. He was also a regular in the audience at the Northern Aldborough Festival, also arranging financial support for our charity, and we’ll always be very grateful for that.”
Martin was also a stalwart of the Yorkshire Young Achievers Foundation, foundation Chairman Peter McCormick OBE said:
“Martin will be a huge loss not only to the Foundation and all of those involved in it but also to the wider community in Harrogate and district where he was very active in many organisations, including Harrogate Chamber of Commerce. We send sincere condolences to his family and to all those who knew and admired him.”
