Let’s talk – the invitation from bus operator Transdev to drivers who have lost their jobs at local firm CT Plus Yorkshire.
In a statement, CT Plus Yorkshire, which is part of social enterprise HCT Group, says it has faced “multiple challenges” for some time, including a period of “difficult trading prior to the pandemic”, the financial impact of the pandemic itself, followed immediately by the current surge in fuel prices and labour costs.
Its statement continues: “Everyone has worked tirelessly to put the operations in Yorkshire on a stable footing, but there is nothing further to be done and the situation cannot continue.”
CT Plus Yorkshire says it is exploring handing over its bus routes in the Wakefield, Pontefract and South Elmsall areas of West Yorkshire to other operators. Responding to the news, Tracy Brabin, Mayor of West Yorkshire, said: “My first thoughts are with the drivers and other staff who will now be looking for work elsewhere.”
With this in mind, Transdev is today inviting the collapsed bus firm’s drivers to get in touch as it steps up driver recruitment at its nearby depots in in Halifax, Huddersfield, Bradford, Keighley, and Harrogate.
Transdev CEO Alex Hornby said: “We’re naturally sad to see a bus provider closing in our region and our thoughts go out to those people affected by this news. Along with other local operators, we are discussing the current situation with colleagues at West Yorkshire Combined Authority.
