Harrogate Town Plan Forum - An Update
Last year we heard from Paul Hatherley and Stuart Holland about the creation of a local neighbourhood plan for Harrogate.
Since then, a forum has been established and grown to over sixty members including the Harrogate District Chamber of Commerce.
An important milestone took place last month when the Harrogate Town Plan Forum was officially designated by North Yorkshire Council as the 'responsible body' for preparing a statutory neighbourhood plan for the town of Harrogate covering the current unparished areas within Harrogate.
Tara Stagman has been attending forum meetings over the past year on behalf of the Chamber, supported by Ian Howard and other Chamber committee members on occasion.
The forum consists of a wide range of participants from the local community and has a number of sub-groups on subjects such as retail and the economy, transport, housing, sustainability, heritage and the natural environment.
Work is underway to create a town plan that will put a more local focus on how development within Harrogate takes place in the future to be used in conjunction with existing planning regulations and policy. A report will be produced to hand to the newly formed town council in May so they can continue the work with the support of the forum and complete a town plan for adoption.
If you’d like to help to shape this plan, and are interested in getting involved and having your opinion heard, new participants are very welcome. Let me know and I can pass your details to the forum chair Stuart Holland, or contact their secretary on secretary@harrogatetownplan.org
The next meeting is later this month on the subject of our natural environment – led by George Eglise and Jamie Duncan. Meeting date Tuesday 25th February.
Meetings are usually held in the evenings at West Park United Reformed Church.
