Harrogate District Chamber of Commerce celebrates its 125th Anniversary

Our May meeting was a time for celebration as we marked our 125th anniversary with a party.

More than 120 Chamber members, Past Presidents, Past CEO’s, dignitaries and friends attended the event at Roosters Tap Room, on Hornbeam Party.

Held after the AGM — which saw Sue Kramer elected as our new President, speeches were given by CEO David Simister, outgoing President Martin Gerrard, incoming President Sue Kramer, Deputy Lord Lieutenant Simon Mackaness and Mayor of the Borough of Harrogate, Cllr Trevor Chapman.

Martin Gerrard presented the inaugural President’s Trophy to Robert Ogden for his commitment to business and the community, whilst David Simister presented Management Group member and Hon Treasurer John Garbutt with the inaugural CEO plate for services to The Chamber. Sue Kramer presented Certificates of Appreciation to a number of former Management Group members Mike Proctor, Vicky Finlow, Stephen Root, Sue Scare, Graham Strugnell, Graham Wild and Martin Gerrard.

Harrogate District Chamber of Commerce CEO David Simister said: “I would like to thank everyone who attended our 125th birthday party and helped make it such a superb celebration. It was wonderful evening and fantastic to see so many Past Presidents and a number of former CEOs.“

’For the last 125 years, Harrogate District Chamber of Commerce has been the voice of the town” s business community, and this role, which now takes in the whole district, will continue for many years to come.
