Gaby Roslin and Sir Vince Cable Among New Names Added to Raworths Harrogate Literature Festival Lineup
With new names added to the line-up for Raworths Harrogate Literature Festival – from Gaby Roslin and Ben Riley-Smith to Luke Jennings and Vince Cable – this year’s event is shaping up to be the best yet.
The new speakers join a diverse range of celebrated authors and leading thinkers who have already been announced for the Festival, including Victoria Hislop, Rosemary Shrager, Alison Weir and Dr Hilary Jones. Running from 19th to 22nd October at the Crown Hotel in Harrogate, the programme has been curated and produced by Harrogate International Festivals and is sponsored by Raworths Solicitors.
From the world of politics, Sir Vince Cable, former leader of the Liberal Democrats, will provide an education in the dark art of politics inspired by his recent book, How to be a Politician. Ben Riley-Smith, acclaimed Westminster journalist and political editor at The Daily Telegraph, is set to lift the lid on 13 years of Tory rule through unmissable inside stories on everything from the rifts behind the Referendum to the chaos of the pandemic.
Gaby Roslin, who has shared her unbridled enthusiasm and infectious energy on TV and radio for over three decades, will take to the Harrogate stage to offer tips for a happier life from her latest book on life’s simple pleasures, Spread the Joy. For foodies, Niki Segnit introduces unlikely food pairings inspired by unique flavour combinations from her acclaimed book, The Flavour Thesaurus, which was described by The Sunday Times as ‘a deceptively simple little masterpiece’. And author Luke Jennings, whose thriller Codename Villanelle was the inspiration behind the hit TV series Killing Eve, will share the story of Villanelle’s journey from page to screen.
Leading lights from the medical world will join GP, author and broadcaster Dr Hilary Jones to debate the thorny topic of ‘What’s Next for the NHS?’. Dr Julia Grace Patterson is a prominent author and founder of the doctor-led campaign organisation EveryDoctor, which is fighting to revive the NHS. Stephanie Snow, Professor of Health, History and Policy at the University of Manchester, is a historian of medicine and healthcare who created the first digital archive of NHS history.
