Community Fit celebrates their first birthday!

Community Fit is a collaborative project between Harrogate and District Community Action and North Yorkshire Sport.  Our aim is to help people increase their activity levels whilst also giving them varied opportunities to help out in their local community and increase their sense of wellbeing.

Our first year has seen members of our group give over 300 hours of help to local charities, schools and community groups whilst collectively running or walking over 900 miles to get to wherever we are needed.

Community Fit has partnered with a variety of organisations over the year including Artizan International,  Pinewoods Conservation Group, Oatlands Community Centre, Disability Action Yorkshire, Richard Taylor Primary School, Saltergate Schools, Woodlands Community Garden and Starbeck in Bloom.  We run on a Wednesday night to help out with gardening, painting, delivering leaflets, tidying up or whatever our partners would like us to do.

The next part of our project is currently being piloted - we are working alongside Harrogate Easier Living Project to train our volunteers to safely help older or more isolated members of the community with simple unskilled tasks in their own homes.

To find out more see www.communityfit.uk or email us at info@communityfit.uk.  We are always looking for new partners so if you’re a charity, school or community group (within 2 miles of Harrogate Town Centre) who could benefit from our help for an hour on a Wednesday evening please get in touch.
